Being called as the "busiest actor in Hollywood" by Daily Variety is a long way to travel for a young boy who grew up working hard on fishing and farms in Kentucky. St. Matthews, Kentucky surely isn't the environment to encourage a career in the competitive Hollywood industry. It's known that, when asked "How did you get into show business?", Ned responds: "By hanging out with the wrong crowd" . And that "wrong crowd" includes astonishing, famous legends such as directors like John Huston, Steven Spielberg , John Boorman and Robert Altman and actors like Jon Voight, Burt Reynolds, Newman, Bergman, Burton, Pryor, Heston, Brando and Redford.Ned is equally talented in film, stage and television. He has worked as a professional performer since he was just ten years old, when he has earned spending change by singing in gospel quartets and barbershops. The first ten years of his career were spent at the Barter Theater in Abingdon, Virginia. He has also worked for the Erie Playhouse in Erie, Pennsylvania: the Playhouse Theatre in Houston, Texas and the prestigious Arena Stage Company in Washington, DC.Ned has also worked in several summer theater productions, including Shakespeare in Central Park in Louisville. In May 1971, Ned was chosen by Director John Boorman to play Bobby Trippe inthe violent and shocking "Deliverance" , a film in which Ned had the most courajeous, difficult part, as a fat salesman who is raped by homosexual mountain men. This was the starting of Ned's film career, which has spanned over 100 motion pictures. Since his beginning in "Deliverance" he has worked mostly in movies and television. His movies include Captain America, Superman, Stroker Ace, Physical Evidence, He Got Game and many others.
