Before this, Hudson appeared in the films Leadbelly (1976), The Main Event (1979), and The Jazz Singer (1980). After the success ofGhostbusters he was featured as the Black Muslim prisoner in Weeds (1987) and won kudos for his work as the retarded, heroic handyman in The Hand That Rocks the Cradle (1992), a sensitive performance that deserved a better film to showcase it.
