Alan Rickman Scroll down for movie list. Biography from Leonard Maltin's Movie Encyclopedia:
Actor. (b. Feb. 21, 1946, London.) This classically trained actor's hawklike facial features, ready sneer, and cultured voice have made him a natural in roles calling for suave villainy, notably the terrorist-bandit leader in Die Hard (1988, the role that introduced him to most American moviegoers), the ruthless land baron in Quigley Down Under (1990), and the Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1991). But Rickman, a versatile performer, is capable of much more: He was personally amusing in the otherwise dull The January Man (1989) as a wacky sidekick to unconventional cop Kevin Kline, and charming in Truly, Madly, Deeply (1991) as a ghostly musician. He also had an amusing role in Tim Robbins' political satire Bob Roberts (1992). The actor first gained acclaim (and a Tony nomination) on Broadway in a transplant of the British stage production "Les Liaisons Dangereuses." His most recent screen credits are Mesmer (1994, in the title role) and An Awfully Big Adventure (1995). | |
