Dark-haired, heavy-browed lead and supporting actor who began on TV in the soap "Another World" and on a TV version of Casablanca (1983). In 1983, he also landed a bit part in the trashy Pia Zadora sudser The Lonely Lady He made his initial big-screen impact as Melanie Griffith's maniacal ex in Jonathan Demme's quirky road comedy Something Wild (1986), followed by a sensitive, deeply felt performance as a caretaking brother in Dominick and Eugene (1988) and an attention-grabbing role as Shoeless Joe Jackson in Field of Dreams (1989). He then got the plum part of gangster turned canary Henry Hill in Martin Scorsese's underworld saga GoodFellas (1990). Recent credits include Unlawful Entry and Article 99 (both 1992). He went to Australia to film No Escape (1994) and appeared in Corrina, Corrina (also 1994).
