Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio Scroll down for movie list. Biography from Leonard Maltin's Movie Encyclopedia:
Attractive actress most suited at playing strong-willed, intelligent, and contentious leads, she was a formidable adversary for Paul Newman in Scorsese's The Color of Money (1986; an Oscarnominated performance), Ed Harris in James Cameron's The Abyss (1989), and Gene Hackman in Michael Apted's Class Action (1991). She first appeared onscreen as the strong-willed sister of gangster Tony Montana (Al Pacino) in Brian De Palma's 1983 remake of Scarface and while she has appeared in several mediocre productions-including Slamdance (1987) and The January Man (1989)-she's always acquitted herself well. Her established screen persona stood her in good stead for her role as the new, middlingly "politically correct" Maid Marian in 1991's Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves She is married to January Man director Pat O'Connor. Still active on stage, her recent films include Consenting Adults (1992). | |
