Kathy Baker Scroll down for movie list. Biography from Leonard Maltin's Movie Encyclopedia:
This enormously talented actress, very appealing but not conventionally beautiful, hasn't been assigned typical leading-lady parts in movies, enabling her to create a gallery of diverse characterizations in films of uneven merit. She initially studied drama at the California Institute of the Arts, but abandoned the program when she went to Paris, staying there several years. Upon returning to America, she worked on stage and screen, winning an Obie in 1983 for her performance in "Fool for Love" and registering well in The Right Stuff that same year. She's played a hooker in Street Smart (1987), a substance abuser in Clean and Sober (1988), a shy schoolteacher in Jacknife (1989), and a lusty suburbanite in Edward Scissorhands (1990). Recent credits include Jennifer 8 (1992), Mad Dog and Glory (1993), and the critically acclaimed TV series "Picket Fences" (1992-) in which she stars with Tom Skerritt, for which she won an Emmy. | |
