Biography from Leonard Maltin's Movie Encyclopedia:
Versatile, two-time Tony Award-winning actress (for "Steaming" and "Hurlyburly"), who has made a gradual transition to character parts on-screen. A lively redhead with an extremely winning personality, she appeared as Gene Wilder's jealous wife in The Woman in Red and Steve Martin's girlfriend in The Lonely Guy (both 1984), but made her first really strong impression as Susan Sarandon's sharp-tongued friend in Compromising Positions (1985). She has also appeared in Brighton Beach Memoirs (1986), Hello Again, Sister, Sister (both 1987), In Country (1989), Everybody Wins, Love Hurts (both 1990), Alice(also 1990, in a cameo), but continues to devote much of her time to stage work. She starred in the short-lived TV sitcom "Down Home" and joined the cast of "Designing Women" in its 1992-93 season, playing a filthy-rich widow. | |
