Jimmy Smits Scroll down for movie list. Biography from Leonard Maltin's Movie Encyclopedia:
Tall, smoldering, Latino actor who first melted feminine hearts (and won an Emmy) as the passionate attorney Victor Sifuentes on "L.A. Law" (1986-91). Movie stardom has been a little slower in coming to this Cornelleducated performer-his role as the fiery Mexican revolutionary in Old Gringo (1989) might have done it if anyone had seen the picture-but Smits has been noteworthy as a corrupt cop in Running Scared (1986), a voodoo victim in The Believers (1987), a paternal doctor in Vital Signs (1990), and a Cuban freedom fighter in Fires Within (1991). His performance as Ellen Barkin's befuddled best friend in Switch (1991) proved he could handle comedy as well. Recent credits include the Stephen King miniseries "The Tommyknockers" (1993), the TV movie The Cisco Kid (1994), in the title role, and My Family/Mi Familia (1995). | |
