Biography from Leonard Maltin's Movie Encyclopedia:
Even people who hated Pretty Woman (1990) had to concede that Elizondo's warm, knowing performance as the fatherly hotel manager was an absolute gem of screen acting. It was just one highlight in the career of this bald, gap-toothed, usually mustachioed character actor who has played a Mexican bandit in Valdez Is Coming (1971), a psychopathic killer in The Taking of Pelham One Two Three (1974), a dogged detective in The Fan (1981), a middle-class family man in The Flamingo Kid (1984), and an incorruptible football coach in Necessary Roughness (1991), to name a few. Garry Marshall considers Elizondo a good-luck charm, casting him in every film he's directed, most recently as a Greek coffee shop owner in Frankie and Johnny (1991). Among his extensive TV credits, the high point would be his avuncular D.A. on "Foley Square" (1985-86), with the low being Captain Renault in the David Soul version of "Casablanca" (1983). He copped a rare starring role in the 1992 miniseries "The Burden of Proof." | |
