Biography from Leonard Maltin's Movie Encyclopedia:
Handsome young actor who made his film debut in Joe Dante's Explorers (1985) but really came into his own as the shy student who stands on a desk to yell "O Captain, my Captain" to Robin Williams in Dead Poets Society (1989). Since then, Hawke has appeared as Ted Danson's son in Dad (1989), the victim of a Mystery Date (1991), a prospector in White Fang (1991), a WW2 infantry leader in A Midnight Clear (1992), and a rugby player marooned in the Andes in Alive (1993). He costarred with Jeremy Irons in Waterland (1992) and Albert Finney in Rich in Love (1993), and became something of a "Generation X" poster boy with his turns in Reality Bites (1994) and Before Sunrise (1995). | |
