Look at the obnoxious prep school kids learn something, Look at the uncaring unloving parents get upset, look at the confused kid kill himselft. Dreck! Poetry's greatest hits. Williams is energetic, but misplaced. Some pretty New England scenery, but not much else.

Leonard Maltin/Plot synopsis: |
Williams is a charismatic English teacher at a staid New England prep school in 1959, whose infectious love of poetry--and insistence that each boy ``seize the day'' and make the most of life--inspires his impressionable students, not always in the right direction. Well made, extremely well acted, but also dramatically obvious and melodramatically one-sided. Nevertheless, Tom Schulman's screenplay won an Oscar. 13m. added for network showings.

It was decent. Interesting at points and Hollywood-ish at others. (I could have done without "O captain, my captain.") If you want a more poinant prep school movie, watch "School Ties" or "The Emperor's Club."
