Tom Skerritt Scroll down for movie list. Biography from Leonard Maltin's Movie Encyclopedia:
Talented, personable character actor and occasional lead, whose noteworthy performances have graced many big-screen films and TV shows, including the highly acclaimed "Picket Fences" (1992- ), which won him an Emmy Award. He can be seen in movies dating back to War Hunt (1962, which was also Robert Redford's first film), but didn't make much of an impression on audiences until he played the drawling Army-surgeon buddy of Donald Sutherland and Elliott Gould in MASH (1970). Skerritt has several times played the husband of strong female protagonists in movies such as The Turning Point (1977, as Shirley MacLaine's spouse) and Steel Magnolias (1989, as Sally Field's), and was memorable as the beleaguered space captain in Alien (1979) and as Viper, the commanding officer in Top Gun (1986). He also had a recurring role on one season of "Cheers" (1987-88) as Kirstie Alley's boss. | |
