Leonard Maltin/Plot synopsis: |
A preacher (Skerritt) teaches his sons about life, grace, and love through the art of fly-fishing in their native Montana, but as the boys grow up and follow very different paths (one straight-and-narrow, the other wild) they find that fishing is the one bond that still draws them together. Respectful adaptation of Norman Maclean's autobiographical novella. Beautifully filmed in Montana, with Oscar-winning cinematography by Philippe Rousselot... but the pace is deliberate, the emotions muted, and the result is a bit sleepy at times.
