Roger Moore Scroll down for movie list. Biography from Leonard Maltin's Movie Encyclopedia:
It's unlikely that this likeable, urbane, devilishly handsome British leading man would rate a berth in this book had he not succeeded Sean Connery as secret agent James Bond. Although he studied at London's Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, Moore got his first film exposure in Hollywood, and was groomed as a leading man in the waning days of the studio system at MGM, appearing in such major films as The Last Time I Saw Paris (1954), Interrupted Melody, The King's Thief (both 1955), and Diane (1956), before switching his attention to television. He starred in the TV series "Ivanhoe" (1958), "The Alaskans" (1959-60), "Maverick" (1960-61, as cousin Beau), and "The Saint" (1967-69). He first played Agent 007 in Live and Let Die (1973), and essayed the role in six more series entries:The Man With the Golden Gun (1974), The Spy Who Loved Me (1977), Moonraker (1979), For Your Eyes Only (1981), Octopussy (1983), and A View to a Kill (1985). As the Bond films degenerated into elaborate, live-action cartoons, Moore's boyish insouciance became less spontaneous and eventually grew tiresome. He played the title role in a 1976 made-for-TV movie, Sherlock Holmes in New York but has had few worthwhile big-screen opportunities since retiring from the role of 007.
