Biography from Leonard Maltin's Movie Encyclopedia:
Curly-haired, personable leading man of youth-oriented features, generally cast as lighthearted, often bashful, characters. Although busy, Dempsey has yet to win box-office stature, possibly because so many of his vehicles have been misfires: Can't Buy Me Love (1987), In the Mood (also 1987, the best of the lot and a much underrated film, with Dempsey as real-life "woo woo kid" Sonny Wisecarver), Some Girls (1988), Happy Together and Loverboy (both 1989). Dempsey showed his dramatic mettle as a young Meyer Lansky in Mobsters (1991) and in the title role of the miniseries "JFK: Reckless Youth" (1993). | |
