Biography from Leonard Maltin's Movie Encyclopedia:
Attractive, independent actress who entered movies and TV in the late 1960s after appearing as a dancer on Broadway and in the New York City Ballet. Making a good impression in They Shoot Horses, Don't They? (1969) and Lovers and Other Strangers (1970), Bedelia was widely touted as an exciting new talent, but she became exceptionally picky about accepting conventional movie roles and, consequently, worked infrequently throughout the 1970s. She achieved something of a "comeback" with her extraordinary performance as race driver Shirley Muldowney in Heart Like a Wheel (1983). She was similarly impressive in minor films such as The Boy Who Could Fly and Violets Are Blue (both 1986), displaying grace, intelligence, and strength. Most recently she has achieved popular success as Bruce Willis' gutsy wife in Die Hard (1988) and Die Hard 2 (1990), and as Harrison Ford's spouse in Presumed Innocent (also 1990). She has been active in telefilms and miniseries (including 1993's "The Fire Next Time") and costarred in the Stephen King feature Needful Things (also 1993). | |
