	| Leonard Maltin/Plot synopsis: | Straight-arrow banker Robbins is railroaded for a double murder and sent to prison for life in the late 1940s. Fellow lifer Freeman and his buddies eventually come to admire Robbins' moral code--and his ability to get things done, in spite of a heinous warden and brutal prison guard. Widely praised film is well crafted but terribly overlong, and (like much of Stephen King's non-horror writing) hollow and predictable. First-time feature director Darabont adapted King's novella Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption. |
