Heart wrenching and beautifully told story. When I saw this in the theatre after the movie ends you could hear sobbing all over. Even Winger is appealing (a major feat in my opinion).

Leonard Maltin/Plot synopsis: |
Absorbing tale of British writer C. S. Lewis (The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe) whose comfortable if rigid life as an Oxford don in the 1950s is shaken by his meeting with a forthright American poet, Joy Gresham. Intelligent and moving, with Hopkins in peak form, and Winger his match; the supporting actors are equally good. Filmed on location at Oxford. Adapted by William Nicholson from his 1985 television script and subsequent play. Panavision.
