Reviews
Mine: Powerful and very well done.
Leonard Maltin/Plot synopsis: Two FBI agents--one a tight-jawed, by-the-book type, the other an experienced Southern lawman who knows how to handle people--head the government investigation into the disappearance of three civil rights workers in Mississippi during the summer of 1964. Vivid recreation of the period and setting helps carry a less-than-perfect script (inspired by real-life events); Hackman gives a dynamic performance as the former small-town sheriff who figures out how to crack the case. Peter Biziou's cinematography won an Oscar.
