Loud, ugly adaptation of the comic book set in a future world of urban chaos where new-age police are empowered to ``judge''--and kill, if need be--on the spot. Judge Dredd (Stallone) is caught in a conspiracy much bigger and more insidious than he realizes. Some interesting plotting is lost in a sea of hard-edged violence, video game-like special effects, and overripe acting.
