Mine: |
Searing drama. Pacino gives on the best performances of his career. Somehow the direction, acting and photography really make you feel like you are there. The tension and heat of the situation become real in a way that movies usually are not.

Leonard Maltin/Plot synopsis: |
Incredible-but-true story of a loser (Pacino) who holds up a Brooklyn bank to raise money for his lover's sex-change operation, and sees simple heist snowball into a citywide incident. Pacino's performance and Lumet's flavorful N. Y. C. atmosphere obscure the fact that this is much ado about nothing. Frank Pierson won an Oscar for his screenplay (based on an article by P. F. Kluge and Thomas Moore).
