Reviews
Mine: I must confess the despite two attempts to watch this movie I fell asleep before the end. As a result it is possible that the end redeems this really stupid movie, but I doubt it! Very aptly named film.
Leonard Maltin/Plot synopsis: Sharp, funny, original take on Beverly Hills high school teens of the 90s, by the director of FAST TIMES AT RIDGEMONT HIGH (and based--believe it or not--on Jane Austen's Emma). Silverstone is perfect as Cher, who with her best friend Dionne--they're both named after famous pop singers--knows everything about being gorgeous, popular, and always in vogue. This laugh-out-loud satire is never mean, which is a big part of its charm; it also introduces wonderfully funny vernacular, which we won't spoil by reciting here. As if! Heckerling also scripted. Later a TV series.

This movie is soooo much better appriciated it you have a good understanding of Jane Austen. (Yes, I know that sounds random.) The plot EXACTLY parallels that of Austen's "Emma". It's really cleverly done with that in mind, and the ditsy Beverly Hills characters are fun and harmless.
