Watching this movie you know why Eddie Murphy was such a star. He is terrific. Too bad that he chooses such bad vehicles these days. Very funny and the plot actually makes sense, something that can not be said for the sequels.

Leonard Maltin/Plot synopsis: |
Smart-mouthed Detroit cop, who never plays by the rules, goes to L. A. to track down an old friend's killers. Sassy, tough, and very funny vehicle for Murphy, who's in peak form as a guy who's never caught off guard. Deft blend of comedy and violent action, extremely well cast, with terrific song score. Script by Daniel Petrie, Jr. Bronson Pinchot has hilarious scene-stealing role as gay art gallery worker. Followed by two sequels.

GREAT FILM. One of the few films that perfectly blends action with comedy. Murphy is terrific as always. The supporting cast and the song/score are terrific as well. Simply brilliant. By far, the best in series. One of the best films ever made.
