I saw this as a young child, and remember liking it a great deal. Must see it again sometime.

Leonard Maltin/Plot synopsis: |
Melodic Frank Loesser score ("Inchworm," "Ugly Duckling", "Thumbelina", etc. ) can't save musical biography of vagabond tale-teller. Glossy and completely fabricated--has no relation to real Andersen's life story. Some TV prints run 104m.

Okay, so it's incredibly corny -- it's meant to entertain kids, and it does so exceedingly well. I have always loved Danny Kaye and this movie makes me think about how great he is in children's movies. He should have done more becuase he's so lovable!

A really wonderful movie...songs, comedy, dance...could you really want more? Loesser's songs are charming, clever and witty. When was the last time there was a movie musical with so many memorable melodies? True to his actual life story...I don't know. But a whimsical, enjoyable movie...ABSOLUTELY.
