What it seems to me that movies like this forget is what made the first one fun. The effects in "The Mummy" were kind of cool, but what made the movie was the action and the characters. The interplay between the leads was great fun. The dialog was hokey, but enjoyable. Here the effects begin to overwhelm the movie. There are far fewer witty lines. Kind of fun to watch, but overlong. The flashbacks to ancient Egypt do nothing to move the story or action forward. A bit intense for young kids.
