Solid, surefooted adaptation of John Grisham's best-seller about an idealistic lawyer, fresh from school, who goes to work for a shameless ambulance-chaser, but focuses on the case most important to him: exposing an insurance company's refusal to pay a claim for a young man who is dying of leukemia. In the midst of this, he finds himself falling in love with a battered woman. Cast to perfection, and filmed on location in Memphis... the finale, though, seems curiously subdued.
