Leonard Maltin/Plot synopsis: |
When the FBI and the KGB are stumped as to how to capture an international assassin called The Jackal, they turn to the one man who knows him--an Irish terrorist (Gere) who's serving time in a U. S. prison. Watchable globe-trotting thriller is weakened by lapses of credibility, but boosted by Gere's charismatic performance. Venora is also a standout as a no-nonsense Russian agent. Bears only the slightest resemblance to the superior THE DAY OF THE JACKAL, despite being ``officially'' based on that screenplay. Panavision.
