This is a movie that I can appreciate for its power and craftsmanship, but really hated to watch. Just very disagreeable stuff. Like watching torture.

Leonard Maltin/Plot synopsis: |
Two couples get together for an all-night session of bitter conversation; Burton and Taylor's finest hour (together) in searing Edward Albee drama. Taylor and Dennis won Oscars, as did Haskell Wexler's incisive b&w photography, Richard Sylbert's art direction, and Irene Sharaff's costumes. Film broke Hollywood taboos for adult material, would cause lesser furor today. Script by producer Ernest Lehman. Nichols' first film as director.
