Leonard Maltin/Plot synopsis: |
Disjointed, only sporadically funny tale of a compulsive gambler who finally hits a winning streak at a Florida racetrack. First-time director Pytka tries for a Damon Runyon flavor and a fast pace, but it doesn't come off; screenwriter Nancy Dowd had her name removed from credits.

I could disagree with TheMovieGeek's review any more. This is a top 5 all time movie! Anyone who has ever been to the race track would agree that the casting is brilliant. This is one of those movies you can watch 10 times and still pick up subtleties that make you love it even more! I really don't care for Dreyfus, Tilly or Buster, but the movie is great enough for me to ignore that altogether! A great movie worth seeing!

Matt's right. This film is very funny, and particularly so for anyone who has been to a racetrack. Each character has a real-life double at any racetrack in the country. I've had to buy a second copy of the video, as my family has worn out the first.

This movie is a classic! Anyone who's ever placed a bet can identify with the characters in this movie. It's hilarious, and I never get tired of watching it. A very underrated (critically) movie. One for the ages.
