Early in 1990, Travis got considerable attention for her work as Andy Garcia's wife in Internal Affairsshe added spice to the ensemble cast of Passed Away (1992), and landed an unusually showy part as the mentally unbalanced Joan Barry in Chaplin (also 1992). She won the female lead (a demanding part) in The Vanishing (1993) and showed her comic skill opposite Mike Myers in So I Married an Axe Murderer (also 1993), but neither enjoyed the box-office success that might boost her stock as a genuine star.
